Stephen Frykholm 1978 Herman Miller Picnic Poster
This is an EXCEPTIONALLY RARE first-edition poster for the annual Herman Miller Picnic. Beginning in 1970 and for the next 19 summers, the Herman Miller company picnic was announced with a series of posters as eagerly anticipated as the event itself. The Michigan firm is a designer/manufacturer of distinguished Modern furniture, most notably, perhaps, for the Eames chair so it's no surprise that the posters are also models of excellent design. The work of company creative director Steve Frykholm, the posters in this series are not only clear, bold, and bright, but also loaded with appetite appeal, seasonal aptness, and delicious humor. A complete set of all 20 posters is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Here, we have the 1978 picnic poster, in which we see a magnified, over-frosted pink and white cake. A slice has already been cut out, allowing us to see the moist chocolate inside. It is in MINT condition. Framed and mounted.
